Equal parts style and substance, Monica Pineda aka Dj Moni has been getting it done for some time now.  Since launching her career with a radio show on Washington D.C.’s WVAU in 1991, Moni has demonstrated her talents across the globe. She’s graced stages in France, England, Colombia, the Philippines, and Japan alongside artists like Paul McCartney, Gilles Peterson, Amy Winehouse, Massive Attack, Maceo Parker and Mos Def.

She’s taken on corporate clients like Issey Miyake, Sephora, Puma and MTV.  She’s scored the Helen Hayes Theatre Award nominated “Flow” Live, and produced original music and remixes for theatre and artists like the Blue Man Group. She’s taught after-school Arts programs for the New York City Public School System.  She’s been featured in The Village Voice, the New York Post, Time Out New York and Trace magazine.  And then there’s Friends We Love. Concieved, produced and directed by Moni and Mike Vargas, Friends We Love is a short documentary series which “grant us intimate access to the personal and professional lives of its subjects from artists’ living rooms, studios, offices, stages, labs, kitchens and the streets — wherever the creative magic happens.

GE-OLOGY (DJ / producer / visual artist, NYC)

Ge-ology has a historic past, member of four member group “Born Busy” including high school friend Tupac Shakur “MC New York”, Ge-ology’s production work was the basis for early Tupac recordings.  Later co-founding “Dooable Arts” with Matt Reid “Matt Doo”, Ge-ology has created graffiti based artwork and illustration for cover art, t-shirt design, magazines, mural and contracted art pieces (with the Barnstormers crew).  Ge-ology music endeavors include production for Mos Def, Yukimi Nagano (of Little Dragon), Talib Kweli, Vinia Mojica, Sadat X, Pharoahe Monch, Jem, Mystic, and remixes for Pete Rock and Grand Agent.  His recognizable identity through sound, vision and consistency hasn’t gone unnoticed, thus resulting in a steady stream of exposure in numerous magazines such as XLR8R, The Fader, Frank 151, Style and Urb.

TORONTO – On Thursday August 13th, MONTAGE returns to transform the parking lot of the Manifesto Space at 358 Dufferin into an Outdoor Urban Theatre as we celebrate the work of our city’s (and the world’s) independant filmmakers and artists, minus the barriers of genre, scene or subculture. Featuring short films from the world of Animation, Documentary, Avante-garde and the far reaches of our collective imagination, MONTAGE aims to bring together the inspired and expressive, the audience and artist, in all of us.

More than anything else, MONTAGE is a celebration. With music provided by ANDY CAPP (Bang the Party), art installations by Phillippe Blanchard and Sean Procyk an artist market and refreshment stand, this night is about coming together to bask in the independant spirit of Toronto.
